Pedantry and mastery are opposite attitudes toward rules. To apply a rule to the letter, rigidly, unquestioningly, in cases where it fits and in cases where it does not fit, is pedantry... To apply a rule with natural ease, with judgment, noticing the cases where it fits, and without ever letting the words of the rule obscure the purpose of the action or the opportunities of the situation, is mastery. George Pólya

Vetbook is a non-commercial site. None of us get paid, or receive royalties. Our motivation is simple - to provide a free, accessible-to-all factual and accurate database on veterinary medicine.
Vetbook is an open content free-to-use editable Wiki-format program which has been developed for ease of use. Anyone can access and contribute to information on the site. Vetbook has attempted to be comprehensive in coverage of most areas of medicine and surgery.
It is generally recommended that you do not edit another Vetbook user's page or comments left on talk pages (other than your own, and even then do not be reckless). Fixing vandalism is nearly always welcome, even on user pages. Specific users will let you know if they find your changes inappropriate or if you have given incorrect information.
Perfection is not required. Vetbook is a work in progress. Collaborative editing means that incomplete or poorly written first drafts can evolve over time into excellent articles. Even poor articles, if they can be improved, are welcome. For instance, one person may start an article with an overview of a subject or a few random facts. Another may help standardize the article's formatting, or have additional facts and figures or a graphic to add. Yet another may bring better balance to the views represented in the article, and perform fact-checking and sourcing to existing content. At any point during this process, the article may become disorganized or contain substandard writing.
Please note - Vetbook's article pages are not to be used as a discussion forum. These are best reserved to talk pages.
Vetbook is an online open-content (anyone can access, free of charge) collaborative resource; that is, a voluntary association of web-users working to develop a common resource of knowledge. The structure of the project allows anyone with an Internet connection to alter its content. The content of any given article may recently have been changed, vandalized or altered by someone whose opinion does not correspond with the state of knowledge in the relevant fields.
Vetbook is not uniformly peer reviewed; while readers may correct errors or engage in casual peer review, they have no legal duty to do so and thus all information read here is without any implied warranty of fitness for any purpose or use whatsoever. Even articles that have been vetted by informal peer review or featured article processes may later have been edited inappropriately, just before you view them.
