Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antimicrobial with actions similar to doxycycline.

It is readily available as an oral ointment for treatment of conjunctivitis. Because of side effects such as anaemia due to bone-marrow suppression, it is not normally used as a first-line of choice in infectious diseases of lagomorphs.

Chloramphenicol has proven efficacy against Escherichia spp and Campylobacter spp bacteria[1][2].

Recommended dose rate is 50 mg/kg every 12 hours, orally.
